What's all this?
Now you can edit Google Maps data for the whole world to see... so you can correct your home, business, or favorite landmarks.
Why is Google doing this?
We want to organize the world's information, and that includes your neighborhood. But you know it better than we do, so now you can help make sure the world can see it correctly.
Who can edit?
Anyone can edit if they sign in with their Google account. Some listings are restricted, such as hospitals or businesses whose listings have been claimed through the Local Business Center.
How can I tell if I'm looking at the original information, or edited information?
Click on a placemark on the map. If its information has been edited, the information balloon will say so, and will give you the option of seeing the original information instead.
What about abuse?
Any user can report abuse they see on a listing through the "report abuse" link. Edits on these listings go through moderation.
How can I protect my business's listing?
You can claim your listing through the Local Business Center. We'll verify that you are the real owner of the listing, and will then prevent other users from editing it.
How can I edit my house?
Make sure you're signed in with your Google account. Then, search for your house's address. You should get a green arrow on the map. Click the arrow to see its information bubble, and click edit. Once you've moved the arrow to the correct location, save it. Now, whenever anyone else searches for this address, they'll see the arrow at the correct location.
How can I edit a business?
Make sure you're signed in with your Google account. Then, search for the business. You should see a red placemark on the map. Click on the red placemark to open its information balloon, and click edit.
What kinds of information can I edit?
As long as you're signed into your Google account, you can edit the locations of addresses, businesses, and landmarks such as parks.
Hey, this placemark doesn't let me edit it!
Some placemarks are restricted, and don't show edits right away. These include categories such as hospitals and government buildings, as well as businesses whose listings have been claimed through the Local Business Center.
My edit isn't showing up.
Some edits, such as moving a placemark more than 200 yards (or 200 meters in some countries) from its original location, require a moderator's approval before they show up on the map.
