Pegman is your guide through Street View. Pick him up
and drag him to the place you want to see, and roads with Street View imagery will appear
with a blue border. When not in use, Pegman sits atop the Google Maps zoom controls.
Pegman’s name comes from the fact that he is shaped like a clothes peg. He is personified as a life-sized character in several of our demo videos, and has also appeared at other Google events, such as our launch of Street View in France in 2008.
Occasionally Pegman dresses up for special events and occasions, or is even joined by peg
friends in Google Maps. Some of these icons stay in Google Maps for specific locations,
such as the skiing Pegman at
Whistler Blackcomb Mountain and the penguin for Street View imagery of
Half Moon Island, Antarctica.
