- 5 May 2010 Fjola Dogg Helgadottir I found Fjola's approach very refreshing, practical, and useful. I had a bad experience with counselling earlier in my life, had subsequently developed a 'just suck it up' attitude to dealing with any feelings of depression and anxiety, and felt hesitant about seeking assistance again. While nothing gets better 'overnight', I did start to feel the benefits of Fjola's practical guidance using the CBT approach very quickly. The exercises that Fjola gave me to do seemed simple but were surprisingly powerful, and I quickly adapted these from 'homework' to tools for 'real time' use whenever I hit a stumbling block. It helped me realise that my seemingly insurmountable problems were definable, could be analysed, and cut down to size. Those exercises, and the further reading Fjola gave me, reinforced and taught me new skills and behaviours that with time I've gotten better at internalising and using 'on the fly' when I need to. I put it down to and highly recommend Fjola's approach; a ...
- 16 Feb 2010 Fjola Dogg Helgadottir I was lucky enough to find Fjola after seeing other psychologists but not having much success with their approaches to therapy. What I found extremely helpful with Fjola's approach was her clear and structured methods of considering the faulty thinking which was causing my anxiety and depression. Fjola directed me to articles and research that were relevant and accessible to my experiences and situation. Under Fjola's guidance I have learnt to identify key thoughts, which if not kept in check, contribute to my anxiety and negative thought patterns. Upon identifying these, Fjola taught me to implement strategies to adjust these and take control of my feelings. I completely recommend Fjola and her approach to therapy. She is very professional in her approach and I felt very confident in her abilities to give objective advice and support.
15 Feb 2010 Fjola Dogg Helgadottir What I really liked about Fjola's approach was that she was not only very professional, skilled and practical, but also really human, caring and empathetic too. This combination allowed me to open up, feel genuinely understood and safe so that I could trust enough to risk trying some of the challenging tasks and exercises that Fjola suggested. I met with Fjola once a week for just 2-3 months. I believe the sessions were what enabled me to recover from the depression I was experiencing when I started. And now I am better, I still practise what I learnt as a better way to live and this is helping me manage life at a time when i could easily have slipped back into depression. Kate
12 Feb 2010 Fjola Dogg Helgadottir I found Fjola's approach immensely helpful. In a very short period of time I was able to overcome intense anxiety and fearfulness and claim back control over my feelings and to make sense of my experiences. Fjola guided me to literature and techniques which I found immediately helpful. In doing so Fjola's approach gave me tools and abilities to help myself wherever I was at any time. For me this was much better than finding help only once a week in a therapy appointment. Fjola is always respectful and good humoured and worked at a pace that suited and supported me. I recommend her practice to you. Mark, Glebe Point
