Pretty even in winter
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 By A Google User - 31 Dec 2009
Admission was free for us who visited on a winter weekday. It's true it was really cold but we were dressed for the weather (thermal underwear, T-shirt, fleece, jacket, hat and gloves, etc.). The garden was pretty even in late December. There was a blue heron on a frozen pond in Japanese garden who was trying to catch a fish through a crack on the ice. My 9 yo son was very excited to see him up close. It's a very enjoyable stroll across the garden. You can get hot chocolate and food at the conservatory (hot house). Bonsai collection there was very interesting, too. People at Visitor Center were helpful.

I enjoyed myself at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden ... but I expected more from it. Perhaps it was from the many glossy pictures that I've seen in magazines, or the segments from Martha Stewart, and P. Allen Smith. I just expected my socks ...

... The Brooklyn Botanic Garden began as a 39-acre plot donated by the New York State legislature in 1897. Since then, it's grown to 52 acres of immaculate landscaping ripe with color; bluebells and daffodils carpet the hills and wooded areas, and in the Cranford Rose Garden (with more than 5000 plants and 1400 varieties), roses of every shape and size, in mauve, scarlet, or apricot hues ...
